The muted colours give a very serious feel to the photo. Makes the photo feel very real. The composure of the shot comprise of 2 main elements, the child and the toy doll, in a very dirty environment. The toy doll in its very ragged condition reflects upon the child's living conditions. Poor and dirty. The child does not have clothes, has a dirty cardboard as a mattress, even the child has not had a bath in a long time. The irony is that even in such conditions, the child in her sleep seems so peaceful.

The high contrast of the photo gives it a very edgy and sensual feel. I feel that the photo will be more sensual if the photographer managed to capture the smoke from the cigarette.

At first glance, the photo seems as though a whale is popping its out for a breather. Upon closer observation, it is actually the head of a whale cut off and left on the snow. The photo has an environmental message and the stain of red blood helps to put the message of cruelty across. The pureness of the ics and snow seems to state this fact in greater contrast.
